Emergency services will not be available at Watrous Hospital for two full days beginning June 30th at 8:00 a.m. to July 2nd at 8:00 a.m. The City of Watrous’ Facebook page is advising residents to seek treatment at Humboldt Hospital, or travel to Royal University Hospital or St. Paul Hospital in Saskatoon.
According to the Facebook page for the City of Watrous, The Watrous Hospital has experienced more than twenty service closures since January, the majority affecting the emergency department.
Saskatchewan NDP Associate Shadow Minister for Health Keith Jorgenson says, “Two full days and no emergency room is horrific and dangerous. We have been calling for weeks for a plan to restore healthcare in Watrous, and the Sask. Party hasn’t done a damn thing.”
The Saskatchewan NDP say information about the emergency room closures are posted to Facebook and many people don’t find out it is closed until they show up and see a note indicating they need to go somewhere else.
Jorgenson says, “People experiencing a medical emergency can’t afford the confusion of guessing where to turn for healthcare and they certainly can’t afford another hour racing down the highway.”
The Saskatchewan NDP say an urgent plan is needed and they are going to continue demanding 24/7 restoration of the Watrous Hospital emergency room.
Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Rural and Remote Health Jared Clarke says healthcare in Saskatchewan is in last place due to the provincial government putting it there.
“We need a government that acknowledges the crisis and that collaborates with frontline healthcare to develop a plan that is sustainable and ensures every person in Saskatchewan has access to healthcare when and where they need it.”
