It’s my Parting Shot for Week 4 C-F-L winner picks from The Fearless Predictor…..
In my futile attempt to sound cool with the younger audience, I will try at least once to refer to myself in acronym form. As in T-F-P was 3-1 with his Week 3 choices in the C-F-L. That was the truth and not a recording – although it could’ve been! Once again, T-F-P was 3-1 for a third straight week, 9-3 overall, heading into this week’s action…
…starting tonight with Edmonton at Winnipeg. My belief is that in pro sports, the longer a winning or losing streak is, the more likely it will be snapped when choosing winners and losers. So far, the Elks are winless in two games while the Blue Bombers have a couple of wins without a blemish. I start wanting to pick against the streaks when they hit three games or more. As a result, I’m going with home-standing Winnipeg by more than two touchdowns!
Friday Night Football has Montreal in Hamilton. Keeping in mind my explanation for picking winners based on streaks, a two-game losing skid for the Tiger-Cats, plus being at home, isn’t enough to overcome the 3-0 Alouettes. The Als win by more than 10 points!
On Saturday, it’s the 3-0 Riders at home to 1-2 B-C. The quarterback match-up might end up being Jake Maier for Saskatchewan against the Lions’ Jeremiah Masoli. Two guys who have been starters with other teams, now expected to be reliable back-ups in case of the inevitable injuries being sustained by Trevor Harris and Nathan Rourke, respectively. The Roughriders are due for a loss after three straight wins to open the season and Masoli has had game action already while Maier is bound to be rusty. Home field doesn’t help the Green and White either, B-C prevails by less than a field goal!
That leaves Sunday’s Toronto at Ottawa contest. The Argos are 0-3 and due for a win, based on my logic, while the RedBlacks are 1-2 – coming off a sloppy win in poor conditions which makes it tough to say how good they really are! Ottawa is at home and Chad Kelly isn’t likely to be under centre again for Toronto, so I’m picking the RedBlacks by more than a touchdown!
I would like to ascend to a perfect week, but I’ll settle for another 3-1!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
