An 18-year-old male has been charged with second degree murder following the death of a man in a residence on the Red Earth Cree Nation back on Tuesday.

A Saskatchewan R-C-M-P news release says officers from the Carrot River detachment responded to a report in the evening of June 24 and located an adult male in a residence, who was declared deceased at the scene. Saskatchewan R-C-M-P Major Crimes took over the investigation after it was determined the man’s death was suspicious in nature. Continued investigation led to 18-year-old Cecil Whitehead of Red Earth Cree Nation being arrested later on June 24 in connection to the death of 29-year-old Gerald McKay, also of Red Earth Cree Nation. Whitehead was scheduled to appear in court in Carrot River Thursday to face the charge of second degree murder.
