A new mental health group home had its grand opening Wednesday in Prince Albert.
Peggy’s Compass Home is a collaboration of Prince Albert Outreach and the Government of Saskatchewan, who is providing 800-thousand dollars in annual operating funding for the five-space home that will support youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who are experiencing mental health and addictions challenges.
The opening of Peggy’s Compass Home fulfills the 2023-24 provincial budget commitment to develop three mental health group homes with a 2.4-million-dollar investment. The other two such facilities, which are already opened, are EGADZ’s Garden of Hope in Saskatoon plus Joe and Irene’s Home in Regina.
Each home is jointly funded by the ministries of Social Services and Health, with 400-thousand dollars from each towards annual operating costs. Referrals for youth with chronic mental health and/or addictions issues to the new P-A facility will be made through a partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Ministry of Social Services.
