While GasBuddy.com says gasoline prices in Saskatoon haven’t moved in the past week, averaging 134.20 cents per litre, don’t expect it to last. GasBuddy conducts a daily survey of 81 gas outlets in Saskatoon. This compares to the national average that has increased 4.6 c/L in the last week rising to 140.73 c/L.
Head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy is Patrick De Haan who says, “With Israel and Iran trading attacks over the past week, oil prices have continued to climb- and gasoline prices in Canada are following suit, rising at a pace we haven’t seen since last summer.”
De Haan disagrees with what he terms “so-called influencers on social media” who are predicting apocalyptic price spikes which De Haan says is wildly inaccurate.
While few regions were spared a gas increase over the last week and with the U.S. launching attacks on Iran, he says Canadians should anticipate a continued steady climb in fuel prices. De Haan forecasts that the national average is expected to rise another 3 to 7 cents per litre for gasoline this week, while diesel could increase by 5 to 10 cents per litre.
