After being dry for most of the spring—it has started raining again, especially in the region west and southwest of Saskatoon.
Rainfall amounts ranged from 25 to 75 millimetres on Saturday, with Eston, Lucky Lake, Rosetown and Outlook all received ample amounts of rain. Those same areas were hit by thunderstorms on Monday afternoon
Saskatchewan Pulse Growers agronomist Mark Zatylny says the moisture increases the possibility of root rot diseases in lentils and peas—-with the worst type being aphanomyces.
Any signs of disease will take several days to show.
Another pulse crop disease to monitor in the coming days is anthracnose. This is Saskatchewan Pulse Growers Agronomy Manager Mike Brown
