Environment Canada has upgraded their special weather statement to a tornado warning for parts of west-central Saskatchewan. Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm that is possibly producing tornados that may have damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall possible.
The tornado, 90 km/h wind gusts and quarter to loonie to size hail and moving Southeast at 30 km/h.
Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
One or more weak tornadoes may be occurring in the area. They sometimes appear as funnel clouds with swirling debris near the ground.
Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.
Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.
Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.
Additionally, there is a tornado watch for portions of southwestern Saskatchewan for this afternoon and evening.
Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.
