U window air conditioners have been recalled due to risk of mold exposure. This recall involves U Window Air Conditioners sold in brand names including Midea, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia and Perfect Aire. The air conditions are designed to fit in windows. They are sold with remote controls and can be controlled by a mobile app.
Pooled water in the air conditioners can fail to drain quickly enough, which can lead to mold growth. Mold exposure poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers.
As of June 3, 2025, the company has received 5 reports of mold in the air conditioners in Canada, with no reports of symptoms. In the United States, the company has received 152 reports of mold in the air conditioners, including 17 reports of consumers experiencing symptoms such as respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, sneezing and/or sore throats from mold exposure.
Between March 2020 and May this year the company sold about 45,900 units of the affected products in Canada and about 1.7 million were sold in the United States.
