The federal and provincial governments will invest $3.4 million over the next four years to support beef cattle genomics research.
The new initiative will advance beef genetics by matching genomic markers with desirable traits and evaluate reproductive efficiencies. The work will be done at the Livestock Forage Centre of Excellence (LFCE) near Clavet and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine on the University of Saskatchewan campus.
The announcement was made on Tuesday morning at the opening of the LFCE Field Day.
CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger interviewed Terry Fonstad, associate vice-president of research at the University of Saskatchewan.
Neil also spoke to LFCE Director Scott Wright about the genomic research announcement, as well as Tuesday’s producer and industry tour.
