The Saskatoon Berries are a perfect “10” – at NexGen Patch at Cairns Field so far in 2025!
The Berries are 10-0 on their home diamond, thanks to their eighth straight win overall – a 14-7 decision over the Sylvan Lake Gulls before 1,227 fans. Saskatoon left no doubt as to what the result would be in the first inning when they sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six runs on eight hits off Sylvan Lake starting pitcher Tyler Hrin. All hits were singles, with the exception of a double by Evan Janner (pictured) – the first hit in 21 at bats for the Berries’ left fielder this season. All nine Saskatoon position players had at least one base hit and all, with the exception of second baseman Nomar Prieto, scored at least one run. Melville product and Berries’ shortstop Nathan Houston had the most juice off his bat, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. On the mound, Muenster native Merek Yeager started and pitched five innings to get the win for Saskatoon with former Swift Current 57s right-hander Klevert Martina following with three perfect innings of relief. The 15-2 Berries head to Medicine Hat for games Thursday and Friday before coming back home for a Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon series against the Energy City Cactus Rats, formerly the Edmonton Prospects. Following are Les Lazaruk’s post-game chats with head coach Joe Carnahan, Janner and Martina plus the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L website…..
