Hometown boy did good Tuesday night!
Cory Wouters, one of five Saskatoon products on the Berries’ roster, clubbed a tie-breaking home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in front of 1,155 appreciative fans at Cairns Field as Saskatoon out-scored the stubborn Sylvan Lake Gulls 8-6. The round-tripper was the fifth of the season for Wouters, tying him with team-mate Ethan Murdoch for the W-C-B-L lead. The victory was the seventh of the season for the Berries, the second time already in 2025 that Saskatoon has won seven-in-a-row. Clay Mixon pitched three-and-a-third innings of one-hit relief for the win while Noah Bourgeois took the hard-luck loss. Wouters’ homer was the first hit the Sylvan Lake right-hander allowed after three-and-a-third scoreless innings of his own in relief. Saskatoon jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings, only to have the Gulls rally to tie with five runs in the sixth frame. The Berries are 9-0 at Cairns Field, 14-2 overall while Sylvan Lake dropped to 9-7 for the season. The same teams meet again Wednesday night at Cairns Field at 7 o’clock. Following are Les Lazaruk’s post-game chats with head coach Joe Carnahan, Wouters and Mixon…..
