The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan is warning the province’s residents after an incident was reported in the Rosetown area regarding unlicensed door-to-door sellers offering paving services.
The FCAA advises residents they should only deal with door-to-door sellers licensed by the FCAA. All door-to-door sellers or direct sellers, have to be licensed in Saskatchewan so you should ask to see a copy of their license and verify their listing. They also suggest never feel pressured to make an immediate purchase, keep down payments to a minimum, never hand over a blank cheque and avoid paying in cash. As well, get documentation before agreeing to service.
As well, you have 10 days to cancel a contract without needing to provide a reason. and if a contract is canceled, the vendor must refund all money received under the contract within 15 days of cancellation.
