Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit has arrested 19-year-old Trey Berland from Onion Lake Cree Nation and charged him with one count of manslaughter in connection to the death of a 68-year-old man on April 3rd.

Berland was arrested at the Edmonton Remand Centre and will be in Lloydminster Provincial Court June 23rd.

On April 3rd at approximately 5 p.m., Maidstone RCMP received a report of an injured male at a residence in the RM of Brittania. Officers responded and located the victim who was transported to hospital with serious injuries. He later died in hospital.

The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is also investigating this incident, as investigation determined Maidstone RCMP received a request to conduct a wellness check on the male at approximately 7 a.m. on April 3rd. The RCMP say a physical check was not completed.
