Canadian Blood Services is hoping to have a million new blood donors the next five years.
They launched a campaign in May to recruit one million new donors across Canada and June 8-14 has been designated National Blood Donor Week, shining a spotlight on the work of the blood services organization.
Lisa Beechinor is the Business Development Manager for Canadian Blood Services in Saskatoon and says they are grateful for the more than 400,000 donors they have across the country, but in order to sustain a growing and aging population, and advances in clinical care that require more blood products, they set a goal to have a million new donors.
Beechinor says individuals who are 17-years or older and generally in good health, can typically donate but can check eligibility requirements on blood.ca.
