The Saskatoon Police Service says several arrests were made of the weekend in connection to a number of armed robberies at grocery stores.
On Friday at 6:00 p.m. police responded to a weapons call in the 100 block of Primrose Drive where a man reportedly threatened a Loss Prevention Officers with a knife when he was confronted about a theft. The suspect returned the stolen items and fled before police arrived.
He is described as being approximately 30 years old with a goatee and leg tattoos. The suspect was wearing a white shirt with a black bunnyhug, camouflage shorts, a yellow hat and black shoes
At 5:45 p.m. Saturday police answered a call at a store in the 2400 block of 22nd Street West where a man had allegedly deployed bear spray towards LPO’s inside the business and then fled on foot with stolen goods. A suspect was located in the 100 block of Avenue Y South and arrested. A 20-year-old man is facing four assault charges and two weapons related offences.
Just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday officers responded to a store in the 300 block of Confederation Drive after two women were believed to be shoplifting and deployed bear spray toward security officers when taken into custody. Both women were found to be in possession of bear spray, and one also had a knife on her person. Stolen clothing was also seized from the suspects and returned to a sporting goods store, also in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. Two women, ages 26 and 29, are facing robbery and weapons charges.
On Sunday night around 8:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to a store in the 500 block of Wellman Crescent where a man reportedly exited the self-checkout without paying and threatened store security officers with a knife, when confronted. The officer was able to recover the stolen items and knife before the suspect fled on a bicycle. Police are searching for the known suspect who is charged with Robbery, Assault and two weapons-related offences.
