It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
I knew Ryan Fox was going to win the Canadian Open golf tournament yesterday as soon as I heard Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman, on the C-B-S telecast, say that Sam Burns was the top-rated putter on the P-G-A Tour! Not because of any “broadcaster jinx,” just merely for the fact that “Murphy’s Law” says anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Burns should’ve won on the first playoff hole, but missed a five-foot putt for birdie and the win!
Prior to yesterday’s fourth and final round, I thought there might be a playoff – but I was hoping it would involve at least two, if not more, of the Canadian contingent that did so well through the first three rounds! But, alas, none of the five regulars from our home and native land on the P-G-A Tour could manage a serious run at the top of the leader board! Nick Taylor shot a 67, which was the best, to be low Canucks at 13-under while Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, Taylor Pendrith and MacKenzie Hughes all ended up at 10-under, eight shots off the pace! So long as we don’t have to wait another 69 years for a Canadian champion!
I also watched a lot of Blue Jays’ baseball over the weekend, turns out that by working next to me in the Berries’ broadcast booth so far this season has made my wife a bit of a baseball enthusiast! Mind you, she is closely watching what goes on with the cameras because that’s what a lot of her job is on the W-C-B-L webcast of Saskatoon home games!
The Jays are 35-30, tied for second place with Tampa Bay in the American League East Division, four-and-a-half games back of the leading Yankees. Toronto also occupies one of the three wild card playoff spots, keeping in mind it’s only June 9 and teams all have between 95 and 100 games remaining to play. Still, the Blue Jays are getting decent pitching with Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes, Mason Fluharty and Brendon Little being pleasant surprises with their performances thus far!
Lastly, remember, Go Panthers, go! LOL!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
