STARS return with their 14th Annual Saskatchewan Lottery and is celebrating being in operation for 40 years across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta with their biggest lottery yet.
More than 2200 prizes valued over $4 million, which includes two dream homes are up for grabs, and tickets purchased go directly to STARS continuing to provide critical care services to the community.
It costs about $24-million annually to operate the air ambulance bases in Saskatoon and Regina, with the STARS Foundation raising about half the total through fundraisers and donations. The other 50 per cent comes from the Government of Saskatchewan. The STARS Lottery generates over one-third of the fundraising total each year.
The 24-hour-a-day air ambulance transports seriously injured or sick patients from rural and remote areas to hospitals in Saskatoon and Regina. STARS operates 10 state of the art ambulance helicopters over the three provinces and has been in Saskatchewan since April of 2012.
