Forty mobile withdrawal management treatment spaces have been funded by the provincial government to be stationed in Saskatoon.
A release from the province says the $644,000 in annualized funding to Medavie Health Services will support the treatment of those experiencing substance use withdrawal while also remaining in a setting that is more comfortable and familiar to them.
Senior Manager of Mobile Integrated Health at Medavie, Angela Sereda, says, “This program is meeting the needs and is a mobile response unit within the communities and really providing access to care. It is self-referred, and we meet them where they are at and what they need in that moment, provide the treatment and support in their recovery journey, then connect them with long-term supports.”
The province says home-based and mobile services are meant for people who are considered low risk for complicated withdrawal. The province hopes these new spaces will enhance existing services, reduce wait times and help more people receive the treatment they need to overcome addictions and live healthy, safe lives in recovery.
Additionally, $7.3 million in annual funding for seventeen new adult addictions treatment spaces at The Carter House has been announced by Mental Health and Addictions Minister Lori Carr today.
