It’s my Parting Shot for the return of The Fearless Predictor and his C-F-L picks…..
Week 1 of the 2025 season is upon us, starting tonight with the Saskatchewan Roughriders at home to the Ottawa RedBlacks. I’ve heard and read in some places that so-called experts believe these teams could meet up in the Grey Cup Game on November 16 in Winnipeg. I’ll address who will finish where this season in this space tomorrow – as for tonight, the Green and White already don’t have the people they expected to have on the offensive line, meaning the run game and pass protection for Trevor Harris will be wanting. I’m taking Dru Brown, Geno Lewis, Lorenzo Mauldin the Fourth and Ottawa by less than a touchdown!
Tomorrow, it’s Toronto at Montreal. The Argos will go with last year’s Grey Cup M-V-P Nick Arbuckle at quarterback as Chad Kelly, who is supposed to be the starter, is not quite ready to return from injury. With the Alouettes, it’s the official start of the Davis Alexander era at quarterback. I’m going with Montreal at home by less than a field goal!
Saturday’s first game sees Hamilton travel to Calgary. Many experts feel the addition of Kenny Lawler as a pass-catching target for the venerable Bo Levi Mitchell makes the Tiger-Cats a Grey Cup threat. We’ll see. Calgary acquired Vernon Adams Junior from B-C to be their quarterback. That should make the Stampeders better – good enough, at least in my humble opinion, to beat the Steeltowners by more than a touchdown!
That leaves Edmonton in B-C on Saturday night. Nathan Rourke is back to stay as the Lions’ quarterback and Tre Ford has been, correctly, handed the keys to the Elks’ offence. Both signal-callers are Canadian, which is a nice sidebar story. I’m taking B-C by more than 10 points!
Winnipeg gets the opening week off before hosting the Lions a week from tonight. The Fearless Predictor has a lot of thinking to do before tomorrow before coming up with standings prognostications and a Grey Cup winner pick in a year where I don’t think there’s really any clear-cut favourites in either division!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
