Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck called on Premier Moe to accept help from the federal government to assist with the wildfires in Northern Saskatchewan. Yesterday, Federal Secretary of State for Rural Development Buckley Belanger, confirmed the federal government is ready to assist with military on the ground in 24 hours.
Opposition Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs, Forestry, and SaskTel Jordan McPhail joined Beck in a media conference today and said the military can provide support and give relief to those who have been working long hours fighting against the wildfires.
Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck says the military can provide assistance with security, logistics, evacuations, medical support and helping with many jobs. She says this is the Canadian Military and you can’t tell us, nor the people of Northern Saskatchewan that more help isn’t needed.
When asked why Premier Moe hasn’t accepted the help offered, The Saskatchewan NDP Leader said she doesn’t know why, and it doesn’t make sense.
In response to the Saskatchewan NDP calling on Premier Moe to accept help, the Government of Saskatchewan responded saying the SPSA monitors the wildfire situation closely and determines what resources and supports are needed. The Sask. Party says the current need is for water bombers and firefighting resources, which the military cannot provide.
