The Resort Village Council has declared a state of emergency and asking residents to voluntarily evacuate the Resort Village, to reduce the number of people who will need to leave within a short period of time, if a mandatory evacuation is required.

The Shoe Fire is less than 14 km from Candle Lake and continues to increase in size, today reaching 470,000 hectares. The fire is moving towards the Village by about 400 meters each day.

If a mandatory evacuation order is issued it would be declared by the Resort Village of Candle Lake Council upon advice from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA).

Many people have already left the Resort Village; several others are staying back as volunteers. The Resort Village feels those who do not have to stay should leave for their own safety.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a mandatory evacuation order. Should a mandatory evacuation become necessary, the SPSA will provide as much advance notice as conditions allow.

If anyone is still in the Resort Village because they have nowhere to go, please contact the Resort Village as soon as possible.

PREPARE TO LEAVE

-Secure propane tanks, shut off non-essential power, and remove flammable items from decks and yards if time permits.

1. Register your departure so responders know your residence is vacant:

2. Provide:

-Names of all occupants leaving

-Civic address in Candle Lake

-Current contact phone, email and location where you can be reached.

Village staff receive SPSA situation reports twice daily and will post confirmed updates at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., or sooner if conditions change.
