It’s my Parting Shot for my return to work Monday Musings…..
I’ll start by endearing myself to many, tongue firmly planted in cheek, by saying – Go Panthers, go!!!
On Wednesday, in this commentary, I will re-explain my severe dislike for the Edmonton Oilers while The Fearless Predictor may surprise you with the last N-H-L prognostication of the 2024-25 season! “May” is the key word there!
Congratulations to former Saskatoon Blades goaltender Austin Elliott on back-stopping the London Knights to the Memorial Cup last night in Rimouski, Quebec! Meantime, my heart breaks for former Bridge City Bunch players Tanner Molendyk and Misha Volotovskii, plus Willie Desjardins, Joe Frazar and Mikki Lanuk as the Medicine Hat Tigers’ fabulous season came up one win short. Willie is a former Blue and Gold bench boss and the detail-oriented G-M and head coach of the Tigers while Frazar and Lanuk are good people that I have had dealings with for most of the last 20 seasons!
I can hear people going, how is it that the Blades let Austin Elliott get away? He’s going to have a Memorial Cup ring and there hasn’t been a title in Saskatoon in 61 years! I’ll have the explanation tomorrow, like it or not!!
I spent 10 days with my wife in the Maritimes during the last 10 days. The Memorial Cup was a little less than six hours away by car from Moncton, where we spent a few days, to Rimouski. Those close to me in the hockey world, who knew of our travel plans, mentioned that we should take a side trip for a day or two to Rimouski – something that wasn’t going to happen, but did make for a quick, but rousing discussion between Verna and I!!
Besides a pick for the Stanley Cup final on Wednesday, The Fearless Predictor will take a stab at what’s going to happen in the C-F-L in 2025 on Thursday. A little bit of a spoiler alert, T-F-P is not as high on the Saskatchewan Roughriders winning the Grey Cup or being in the title game as many around the league seem to be!
Lastly, see you at NexGen Patch at Cairns Field this season for Saskatoon Berries’ home games this summer! For a second straight year, you can tune into my call of those games on the Western Canadian Baseball League web site through the Flo College streaming service. In addition, all four Sunday afternoon games on the schedule will be available for your listening pleasure on CJWW! Play Ball!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
