The Saskatoon Berries showed off a little “juice” from their bats Monday night in recording a 9-4 victory over the visiting Swift Current 57s.
Right fielder Ethan Murdoch and first baseman Cory Wouters hit the first two home runs of the 2025 Western Canadian Baseball League season for the Berries in front of 1,214 fans. After the 57s opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, Swift Current product Murdoch responded with a two-run blast over the left-centre field fence in the bottom of the first frame. Wouters added a two-run “moon shot” to left-centre in the bottom of the fifth inning, part of the Saskatoon native’s three-for-five night at the plate with four R-B-I. In all, the Berries had a season-high 12 hits as they won their third straight game to improve their season record to 3-1 while Swift Current remained winless at 0-5. Saskatoon continues their homestand Tuesday when they tangle with the Fort McMurray Giants at 7 o’clock at the NexGen Patch at Cairns Field.
