Saskatchewan farmers will have most of their crop in the ground by the time June rolls around on Saturday.
The provincial agriculture ministry’s weekly crop report says 88 per cent of seeding was complete, as of Monday.
All regions except for the southeast and east-central are above the 90 percent mark.
Rainfall was variable last week—with many areas not receiving significant amounts. The driest conditions are in the northeast, northwest and west central regions. Cropland topsoil moisture in the northeast is rated as 31 per cent adequate, 59 per cent short and 10 per cent very short. West-central is 47 per cent adequate, 47 per cent short and six per cent very short.
Some crops are being sprayed for flea beetles and cutworms. There have been reports of grasshoppers as well.
