Innovation Saskatchewan is positioning the province as a global leader in research innovation, announcing the release of their new plan, “Accelerating Innovation, Advancing Industry: Saskatchewan’s Research Strategy”, aligning research strengths with emerging opportunities to ensure investments provide the highest return for Saskatchewan.
Two Innovation Saskatchewan programs will receive enhancements to promote economic growth through research and innovation.
The Innovation & Science Fund (ISF) is receiving a $2.4 million increase annually, nearly doubling total funding to $5.2 million. The Saskatchewan Technology Startup Incentive (STSI), will have eligibility status extended for Life Sciences startups, broadening access for investors to the program’s non-refundable 45 per cent tax credit for more Saskatchewan ventures.
The strategy outlines Saskatchewan’s focus on four key areas: Agriculture, Life Sciences, Energy and Mining and Critical Minerals.
The second component introduces a re-naming of Innovation Place. Now called “Innovation Saskatchewan Research & Technology Parks” in Regina and Saskatoon, the re-branding is to unify the agency’s programs and supports under one identity to help support innovators and attract investments.
The strategy aims to support Saskatchewan’s 2030 Growth Plan Goals.
