As of 1 o’clock Thursday there are 17 active wildfires in the province and nine are not contained. There have been 207 wildfires year-to-date in the province as compared to the 167 at the same time last year.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says there are 15 evacuation incidents that they are responding to and six of those are due to the “Shoe” fire. Thursday’s Situation Incident Report from the SPSA indicates the “Shoe” fire is just over 534 thousand acres.
In their latest update the Resort Village of Candle Lake reports that the “Shoe” fire has led to closures for Highways 106, 120, 912, and 913. Work to build a firebreak/buffer has gotten underway and anyone travelling in the area is asked to watch for crews and equipment. .
The Jaysmith fire is now just over 83-thousand acres in size and after being evacuated the SPSA is assessing a burn off area near the community of Brabant. It reports that aerial ignition was successfully used to stop the run into the community.
The fire burning west of La Ronge does have air support however visibility was causing issues for the helicopter support this morning. In addition to the McIlveena Mine Site, Jan Lake has also been evacuated.
The “Wolf” fire west of Denare Beach encompasses almost 72,000 acres
The Club fire burning near Creighton and Flin Flon in Manitoba is now almost 62,000 acres in size. Both communities have been evacuted. The fire west of Christopher Lake is now contained. Communities less than 20 kilometres from that fire include Christopher Lake, Emma Lake and Northside.
Other communities which have been evacuated include Piprell Lake, East Trout Lake, Little Bear Lake, Hall Lake, Lower Fishing Lake, Pelican Narrows, Whelan Bay, Canoe Lake, Birch Portage First Nation, Sturgeon Weir, Deschambault Lake, Denare Beach and of course Weyakwin after an emergency evacuation took place last night with a critical alert being issued at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.
