The Saskatoon Police Service has launched a new Intimate Partner Violence Response Team (IPVRT).
The initiative began in January 2025, and it is a partnership with Family Service Saskatoon in an effort to address the high rates of domestic related violence.
In a news release the police say their multidisciplinary team includes a dedicates Saskatoon Police Service constable and a Family Service Saskatoon outreach worker who have a goal of providing a more compassionate, coordinated, and effective response.
The police service says domestic-related incidents remain among the top five most frequent calls for service.
The team provides consistent follow-up, conducts routine checks on offenders, and ensures enforcement of court-imposed conditions. The team also facilitates access to programs and services that address the root causes of violence.
Richard Bueckert, Inspector of the Investigative Services Division says, “This approach not only enhances immediate safety but also promotes long-term stability and healing for survivors. It’s about building trust and providing a pathway out of violence.”
