The University of Saskatchewan celebrated 60 years of training physical therapists, yesterday. Of the physical therapists practicing in the province, close to 90% are graduates from USASK.
Physical therapists contribute significantly to improving the quality of life for residents.
Beginning in 1965, the program has evolved from a diploma program to a “Master of Physical Therapy”.
The program once called the “School of Physical Therapy” has had multiple locations over the years, but has been home to the Health Science Building since 2018, and renamed the “School of Rehabilitation Science” to accommodate the anticipation of expanding programs offered.
Recent funding from the provincial government has allowed further growth for more seats, two more Master’s programs being developed, and Occupational therapy and speech-language pathology programs starting in 2026.
