Both high school and elementary school students within the division will have access to transportation without a fee this coming fall.
Prairie Spirit School Division recently sent out a notice to parents, indicating a $250 transportation fee, for high school students in Martensville and Warman, but they have rescinded the fee.
The annual fee was to be implemented for the upcoming school year, and the school division cited a lack of funding behind the change.
Parents were informed Friday by the school division, the Ministry of Education does not permit charging student transportation fees, per The Education Act.
The Division said they will be exploring other options for adjustments to high school transportation in the future, as this is an unfunded cost.
High school students in the division who live more than 1.5 km from their school are eligible for transportation, while elementary school students qualify if they live more than one kilometre away.
