The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health sent out an alert early Tuesday evening about potential drug overdoses in Swift Current, including a fatal one.
An alert sent on the Alertable app stated there were multiple suspected overdoses on Tuesday between 9:30am and 12:30pm. The alert said a purple drug sold as “molly” (MDMA or ecstasy) contains an unknown opioid. Swift Current RCMP say this substance has been located in the Swift Current area previously.
The local ambulance service said repeated doses of naloxone were required and some people were sent to hospital.
The NDP Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Addictions says what is happening in Swift Current is occurring across the province. Betty Nippi-Albright says the drug crisis is not contained within one or two cities.
There were 30 drug overdoses in Saskatoon over a three-day period between May 9th and 11th.
