There are just a few more days for community groups to apply for the provincial and federal government’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls community response fund.
In recent years, $400,000 has been allocated to the fund, however this year, that amount has been doubled thanks to an investment from Women and Gender Equality Canada.
Community groups, Indigenous or not, that work to prevent violence and create safety for First Nations and Metis women and girls are encouraged to apply. If you happen to miss the May 31st deadline, the deadline for the second intake is November 10th.
Some of the programs that have come out of the fund in past years include an Indigenous parenting program, a feast and round dance honouring those who are missing and murdered, an honourary mural, and a youth awareness workshop.
