As part of SaskPower’s annual maintenance program, crews will be inspecting almost 120,000 wood power poles between May and October throughout the province.
Testing of approximately 10,000 overhead rural transformers will also be done, and crews will install wildfire protection equipment on 800 poles in high-risk areas up north.
Gregg Milbrandt, SaskPower’s Vice President of Asset Strategy and Planning says, “Providing reliable power to our customers is a top priority for SaskPower. With more than 1.2 million wood power poles in Saskatchewan, regular inspections and maintenance are crucial to ensure continued reliability.”
Signs of damage, decay and/or carpenter ant infestation will be assessed during the maintenance program. Poles that cannot be repaired or reinforced will be replaced.
Power outages will not be necessary for the work to be completed; however, crews may need to access private property, on occasion.
