It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend and going into some time off Short Shots…..
Barring a couple of miracles, the Fearless Predictor looks like he’ll be reluctanty correct in his picks in two of the three second round Stanley Cup playoff series that involved Canadian teams. My Winnipeg Jets only delayed the inevitable last night while the Toronto Maple Leafs are folding, as they usually do at this time of year! That’s too bad because it will leave the Edmonton Oilers as the great rally hope for bringing the big mug back north of Donald Trump’s artificial boundary! Except I won’t be hoping for an Oil win! I didn’t pull for them to beat Florida in last year’s final and I won’t hope for them to win it all this year. In fact, that’ll never happen. Me cheering for the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup, just because they’re Canadian-based, is about as likely as most Prince Albert Raiders’ fans ever cheering for the Saskatoon Blades to win a Memorial Cup – just because they happen to be the W-H-L representative! Read my lips! Not ever happening!!
I see where Rob Manfred did a nice thing by reinstating Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson and others for consideration for election to the Baseball Hall-of-Fame. In the case of Rose, pardoning him for gambling on the sport was done just in time for the Cincinnati Reds to honour him, without being ashamed of doing so in the eyes of a lot of do-gooders. I think it’s high time that a baseball commissioner did that. Rose and Jackson were great ballplayers – maybe not very good characters off the field. But on, where it counts for the Hall-of-Fame, they are very worthy of eternal baseball recognition!
And, my emotions seem to sway every day, with every new bit of testimony in the trial of the five players from the 2018 Canadian World Junior hockey team for sexual assault. Some days, I say lock ’em up and throw away the key. Other days, I have my doubts about the validity and motive of the complainant’s case. What I am sure of, though, is that the North American playing careers of Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote are done like dinner!
Talk to you again on June 2nd!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
