A $135 million expansion project has added 312 beds at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.
A release from the province says the project will allow for enhanced security, safety and capacity in the provincial correctional system. New additions include a medical unit and clinic, more program space, upgraded video court suites and a kitchen.
The province says this project remained on budget and on time. Construction began in 2021, and the centre is scheduled to open this summer.
PCL Construction Vice President and District Manager Mike Staines says, “The SCC expansion is going to be a significant piece of infrastructure within our community and its successful delivery was made possible as part of a true collaboration between all project partners, including the ownership team, design team and trade contractors.”
The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement will continue to handle day-to-day building maintenance at the facility.
