Over one hundred Saskatchewan Polytechnic students got to showcase research projects that address real-world challenges with innovative solutions on Monday.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic student Abdulraeem Saka-Bello invented a service for people to use called, “Walkability Analysis of Wanuskewin Park Using GIS and VR”.
He explains that GIS is “Geographic Information Science” and VR is “Virtual Reality”, which you can use if you have a VR headset.
The student says he created the app with a dashboard that will allow you to copy a QR code. It will allow you to visualize every one of the trails, the name of the trails, and you can tap on and zoom in on a specific trail, to learn the information about it.
Saka-Bello says his goal with his app, is to help people learn about the walkability trails along Wanuskewin Park, by showing trails that have rest spots along the way, entertainment and the trail’s level of difficulty, to name a few.
He also says that with the VR component, people can visualize the trail ahead of time.
