Aleana Young, Shadow Minister for Jobs and the Economy, put the pressure on Sask. Party MLA David Chan today, to publicly clarify his position on separatism, by standing outside MLA Chan’s Constituency office to do so.
This comes after Chan has been linked to the separatist group “Unified Grassroots”, who according to public statements, used its resources to aid in nominating several Sask. Party candidates, who were later elected as MLAs, in the October provincial election.
The “Unified Grassroots” private Facebook group shows Chan has been a member for approximately a year.
Nadine Ness is the “Unified Grassroots” leader and called Chan “one of us”. Ness stated she personally encouraged him to run for nomination.
“It’s been nearly a week and David Chan still has not clarified his position on separating from Canada. Would he vote to leave or vote to stay?” asked Young.
The Minister goes on to push, “If he has nothing to hide, he can clear this all up right now by taking questions from reporters.” She continues, “The people of Yorkton, and all of Saskatchewan, deserve straight answers.”
Earlier this week, the Saskatchewan NDP introduced the “Keep Saskatchewan in Canada Act”, designed to provide long-term stability for workers, businesses, and investors at a time of tariffs and renewed uncertainty over Donald Trump’s threats toward Canadian sovereignty.
