A North Battleford man has been arrested and charged with assaulting an RCMP officer.
On Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., the RCMP North Battleford Crime Reduction Team conducted a traffic stop in North Battleford after seeing a passenger in a vehicle not wearing a seatbelt.
As officers approached the vehicle on foot, they say the man driving exited the vehicle and confronted them.
Officers told the man to get back to his vehicles, which he complied with, but once he did, officers saw that he had illicit marijuana and unstamped tobacco in plain view in the vehicle.
After being told he was under arrest, the man resisted and assaulted the arresting officer. A struggle ensued, but 52-year-old Leon Night was handcuffed and taken into custody.
The officer was treated at the hospital and released, and Night is scheduled to appear in court on June 23.
