“Girls Take Flight” is a one-day, annual event, hosted by Mitchinson Flight Centre, in Saskatoon, and this year it is Saturday, May 10th from 9 am to 4 pm. The event is to empower and inspire girls, primarily between the ages of eight and eighteen years old, to explore aviation.
Brooke Tower is the Social Media Coordinator for Mitchinson Flight Centre, and says aviation continues to be a male dominated industry, with women making up less than 7% of pilots in Canada and even less, internationally. Girls Take Flight is intentionally creating a space to inspire girls who may not see themselves represented in these roles. She asks the question, “How can you dream of something when you don’t even know it’s possible?”
The event is free of charge and is ‘come as you go’, however there are certain scheduled speakers at 11 am, 12 pm and 1 pm.
Pre-registration is required for free discovery flights for the girls, who get to fly above the city, as well.
Other activities throughout the day include aircraft displays, which will allow guests to enter and sit inside the cockpit, airplane fly-bys with pilots doing interesting manoeuvres, and a passport and scavenger hunt, where every girl will receive a booklet. They get to collect stamps from the various booths and exhibits and ask questions about the aviation industry.
The lunch hour will offer a complimentary BBQ, while supplies last.
The event is open to, and encouraged, for everyone, with a focus on girls, as more representation of females is needed in the industry.
Registration is required through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/…/girls-take-flight-2025…
