It’s my Parting Shot for some random thoughts as I prepare the daily sports schedule of events…..
The first thought is, holy smokes it’s busy, locally, now that we have transitioned from winter to spring and summer activities and sports!
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are back in town as they try their darndest to prove that they really are interested in being representative of the province – not just in name! Thank goodness for Jackson Imrie being on staff, and able to swing by Griffiths Stadium on his way in to work at our location near the airport!!
The W-H-L has squeezed a lot of activity into the days between the end of the Conference finals and the Ed Chynoweth Cup final. I propose that the league goes back to holding an Awards luncheon plus the U-S Priority and Prospects Drafts at a central location – like they used to before COVID hit – in places like Calgary or Red Deer! Those three days were great for networking with league and team personnel!
I’ve added three new items today, with a fourth to come tomorrow in the Double-I-H-F World Men’s Hockey Championship tournament. Normally, I view this event as third-rate, behind the Olympics when N-H-Lers are taking part and/or a 4 Nations Challenge or World Cup – again, because all N-H-Lers are eligible – not those that are no longer in the playoffs!
All the best to the Melfort Mustangs in their pursuit of winning one more game at the Centennial Cup than they did after losing in last year’s final!
My apologies to the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association for not posting their scheduled games on our website last year, as well as missing the first three days of this season! Last year, I was busy with Blades’ playoffs and transitioning to Berries’ baseball – my bad!!
The Saskatoon Senior Men’s Baseball League games will be on the schedule again as their season starts tonight!
The Saskatchewan Rattlers are taking a page out of the Roughriders’ book, taking training camp out of Saskatoon to Regina for a couple of days – tomorrow and Saturday. Snakes’ President Lee Genier tells me they have season ticket holders in the provincial capital, so why not!
Speaking of the Berries, just three weeks until their second W-C-B-L season starts on the road in Weyburn!
And, I can’t forget about the Saskatchewan Rush and their run to an N-L-L championship – one win away from reaching the final for the first time in seven years! Saturday at SaskTel Centre should be nuts!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
