Every year the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre has a city-wide food drive campaign, and over the last number of years, they’ve run it the whole month of May. The food bank is calling on the community to “Walk with Us” this entire month, giving people an opportunity to contribute how it suits them best.
An average of twenty-three thousand people access the food bank each month, with approximately 41 percent of those being children.
Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre, Laurie O’Connor says, “May is a great month for us to collect food and funds, because the summer gets busier with children out of school, and those extra pressures on peoples’ budgets.”
In order to help people support the city-wide food drive, many options are available to donate, including putting food in the bin at the grocery store, bringing some food down to the food bank, on Avenue C, or contributing financially on their website.
O’Connor mentions all options for donations are appreciated. Many like to donate food items when they do their own grocery shopping, which makes it convenient for people, and financial donations are also extremely helpful because they have the ability to buy in bulk, stretching the dollar a lot further.
