Elmwood Residences celebrated the Grand Opening Friday, of their fourth manor transition house, in partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan. Elmwood provides high-quality, person-centred support for those with intellectual disabilities, which makes a huge difference in the lives of the people that live there.
Previously coming from a larger congregate setting, they now have their own personal space and more personal one-on-one care, which is very beneficial for them. Dani Carr, Executive Director of Elmwood Residences Inc. describes the impact this type of transition housing has for them, “Mobility issues has actually gotten better in residents who have moved to smaller settings. Behavioural incidences have almost completely gone away. Independence has increased so much. People are doing their own laundry, doing the dishes, helping out, being a part of their community…it’s just fulfilling their lives even more than it has been.”
The new home in Montgomery offers 24/7 care provided by a team of dedicated Disability Support Professionals. The support received is tailored to each person individually, which is designed to enrich their lives as well as foster a sense of belonging.
