It’s my Parting Shot to scold the N-F-L for not being better…..
Not that I ever expect anybody from the National Football League to seriously listen to someone such as myself when it comes to anything they do, but they should take a step back and look at themselves for how they behaved during their Draft proceedings last week!
Yes, I’m talking about the unprecedented drop of Shedeur Sanders from being a potential top three pick to being taken in the fifth round – topped off by being pranked by the son of an N-F-L team coaching co-ordinator!
I almost said that Shedeur Sanders was humiliated, but I don’t believe that word and emotion exists in the Sanders’ family – which, to a large degree, I suspect, is why the events unfolded the way they did last Thursday, Friday and Saturday!
When it comes to Shedeur’s father Deion Sanders, he was an uber-talented athlete – who probably could’ve made more of a career for himself in baseball than he actually did. But, he was a premier defensive back, kick returner and occasional receiver in the N-F-L back in his day.
And, he let everybody know how good he was!!
The same is true of Deion Sanders as a college football coach. He brags and he rankles a lot of opponents and observers and his son Shedeur, who was his quarterback the last couple of years in Colorado, showed that the apple, indeed, doesn’t fall far from the proverbial tree!
But, all of that shouldn’t result in, what appears to me to be, a deliberate attempt by all 32 N-F-L teams to put Deion and Shedeur Sanders in their place! It came across as calculated as Shedeur Sanders’ stock in the draft plummeted faster than the great stock market crash of October, 1929!
Okay, that’s a little over the top, but so was the prank pulled by Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who found Shedeur’s confidential phone number from Jeff’s iPad at home and had a friend call Shedeur, pretending to be New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis. The caller falsely claimed the Saints were about to draft the signal-caller with the next pick, which didn’t happen!
That’s horrible and no amount of apologizing or fining of Jeff Ulbrich and the Atlanta Falcons can make up for that type of terrible behaviour!
No matter how much anyone believes it was warranted based on the past behaviour of Deion and Shedeur Sanders!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
