A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in Prince Albert following a Wednesday evening incident of impaired driving and attempting to evade police.
A Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) news release says officers responded to a report of an impaired driver in a white van in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue East at about 5 p.m. on April 30. On the way, police spotted the suspect vehicle at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 15th Street East, then watched it fail to stop while approaching an amber light. Officers succeeded in getting the swerving van to stop, initially, only to have it flee at a high rate of speed when police approached the vehicle. A second report of an impaired driver, with the same vehicle description, came at 6:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue East. Officers located the vehicle, which continued to attempt to evade them. However, it came to a stop when the vehicle collided with a tree stump on 29th Street East. The driver attempted to get away on foot, but was arrested moments later. The suspect refused to take a breath sample after police found alcohol in the front seat area when they searched it. As a result, a 24-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, impaired driving and breaching his probation and release order.
