A man on a bike in North Battleford who was stopped because RCMP said he was riding without a helmet, pulled out two knives from his pocket and then tried to flee. When the officer nabbed the cyclist before he could get away, police say he assaulted and threatened the officer and resisted arrest meanwhile, in the midst of all this, another man approached and tried to take items that belonged to the cyclist.
Additional officers arrived and both men were arrested. In a news release North Battleford Crime Reduction Team says the cyclist was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole and was also in possession of approximately 19 grams of methamphetamine, a third knife and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Twenty-eight-year-old Riley Bjerkness from North Battleford is facing five charges including weapons offences and assault peace officer. Meanwhile, the second man, 43-year-old Brendan Isaacs of North Battleford, is facing two counts of resist/obstruct peace officer.
Riding without a helmet in North Battleford violates a municipal bylaw.
