Monday April 28. Let’s see now, anything of importance happening today? The kids are back in school after the Easter break but that’s not earth-shattering news. It’s my birthday so another year in the life of this radio guy has gone by in the blink of an eye but I don’t celebrate birthdays anymore. I just wave as they sail on by. Our kids always ask what I want for my birthday and my answer is always the same. I just want everyone in my family to be healthy and happy. World peace would be good but nowadays the chances of that happening are slimmer than winning the LottoMax jackpot, much slimmer. What else is happening today? Oh, wait, I know! It’s Election Day in Canada! The moment of truth. I hate to say it but sometimes in politics a moment is all we get. Elections Canada says advance and mail-in voting numbers have been up over 2021, and it will be interesting to see what the final voter tally is. In the 2021 election voter turnout was about 62.5%. By comparison, last year’s Saskatchewan General Election had a 56.8% voter turnout and Saskatoon’s Civic Election saw only 35% of eligible voters cast their ballots. It seems people get out and vote for members of parliament in much greater numbers than for city councillors and mayor even though this latter group is the one we mostly interact with in our daily lives. Anyway, let’s be sure and vote for who we want to govern this country. Soon we’ll know which party has won and who will be our Prime Minister in these turbulent times. You know what they say, if you can’t be bothered to vote, then you can’t be bothered to complain.
That’s Coffeetalk. I’m Vic Dubois.
