It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
The mistrial just four days into the proceedings in London, Ontario, had a lot of people wondering if it had to do with the graphic detail of what went on back in June of 2018. The case the prosecution presented back on Tuesday was reported by all the various media in attendance in the courtroom where the five former members of Canada’s gold medal-winning World Junior team are on trial. What I read made me blush! I thought I was reading excerpts from “Caligula” or “The Happy Hooker” or “Fifty Shades of Grey!!” If all I read is to be believed, I would say the defence has their work cut out in order to bring back not guilty verdicts for their five clients!! Plus, after all that was reported, best of luck getting an unbiased 14-member jury for the new trial, period! Let alone by Monday!!
Before anyone says anything smart to me about last night’s 7-2 St. Louis victory over Winnipeg, remember – score margin means nothing. It’s one win for the Blues – they don’t get credit for two or three wins because they won by five! There are a slew of examples over the years in all elite hockey playoffs in which the team that wins four games scored fewer goals than the team they beat over five, six or seven games!! This is elite hockey, not kids house league stuff!!
It was bound to happen – the Cam Ward selected first overall by Tennessee last night in the N-F-L Draft shouldn’t be confused obviously with the former Carolina Hurricanes’ star goaltender, also named Cam Ward! That was pointed out on what used to be called “Twitter” by the Western Hockey League account as goalie Cam Ward played about 20 years ago in the Dub with Red Deer!!
And, no matter your political stripe or leanings, I implore you to utilize your franchise on Monday in the Federal Election! It’s one thing to be disappointed that the candidate you vote for doesn’t win or the party you vote for doesn’t form government – but not voting at all out of protest because you don’t feel as though it won’t matter or that you believe the result is already pre-determined is just wrong and gives no right whatsoever to complain afterwards!! If you haven’t yet, make sure you get out on Monday and mark your “X!”
