It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Saskatoon’s Chadwick helps keep Hurricanes’ playoff hopes alive, W-H-L deadline additions include fellow ex-Saskatoon Contacts Yager and Price. My reaction…When The Fearless Predictor, also known as yours truly, took Calgary to oust Lethbridge in six games before the Dub’s second round of the playoffs started, that was my head speaking! My heart wanted the Hurricanes to advance – for the reason of the Saskatoon products Noah Chadwick, Brayden Yager and Caden Price – but also because of good people and friends in the organization like G-M Peter Anholt and head coach Bill Peters! And, from a Saskatoon Blades’ perspective, wanting Lethbridge to beat Calgary tonight will make up for, in a small measure, for the Hitmen sweeping the Bridge City Bunch out of the first round of the post-season. Regardless, the Game 7 tonight between the Canes and Hitmen should be epic!!
Next headline…Mavs G-M stands by Doncic trade. Reaction…I usually don’t agree with loud-mouth E-S-P-N commentator Steven A. Smith, but on this situation I will! Smith called Dallas General Manager Nico Harrison, tone deaf, after Harrison said he, quote, miscalculated the depth of love his club’s fans had for Luka Doncic before the trade that sent the young superstar to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. Harrison must live in a cave or wears noise-cancelling head phones at Mavericks’ home games! Or, maybe he just doesn’t go to home games at all!! Of course, that’s sheer lunacy. Then, again, so was the trade!!
Last headline…Hardy C-F-L records that’ll never be broken, and some that could, former Bombers star Stegall’s receiving touchdown number will stand test of time. My reaction…this is an interesting piece from Regina Leader-Post sports writer Taylor Shire. He did it based on Alex Ovechkin breaking Wayne Gretzky’s career N-H-L goal-scoring record – a mark that very few outside of Ovie ever believed would be eclipsed! Shire adds that Lui Passaglia’s 408 C-F-L games played with the B-C Lions and George Reed’s 134 career rushing touchdowns while with the Saskatchewan Roughriders are marks that will never be approached, let alone broken – and he’s right! There are four others mentioned that will, likely, fall in that same category! I said “likely” – as I hedge my bets!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
