A caller to the CJWW newsroom is reporting an ongoing jewelry scam that has been occurring in Saskatoon for the last two years.
She says there is a family with Ontario and British Columbia license plates that tell victims that they are stranded and need food, gas, and a place to stay. The family then sells their jewelry, which they claim is gold, to Saskatoon residents.
The buyers then take their new purchase to jewelry stores in Saskatoon to check if they are real, only to find out that the pieces are not made out of gold. The caller claimed to work at a jewelry store and has seen three or four dismayed victims come in in the past week.
The caller adds that they are often parked outside of the Travelodge.
