Three boys are facing weapons-related charges in connection to an Ahtahkakoop RCMP investigation which began last Saturday night, and one has a warrant for his arrest. Officers responded just before 9 that night to a call about a firearm discharge on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. Investigators were told a group of people outside a home were approached by four males and one of them had a gun, which was discharged, injuring a male victim. A can of bear spray was also deployed at the victim. He was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious, but non life threatening injuries.
An RCMP news release says police made patrols but weren’t able to find the suspects. Then, around 2 Sunday morning, three youths were arrested on the Cree Nation and were charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm. One of the boys was also charged with assault with a weapon. Their first court appearance was Monday.
