“Bubbles” and “Biscuit” are the two latest additions to the BJ Hughes Centre for Clinical Learning at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) located on the University of Saskatchewan campus.
The two model horses are used by veterinary students to practice their foal delivery technique. WCVM Dean Dr. Gillian Muir calls the donated model horses “game changers” because they are great preparation for when it is time to do a live delivery.
“Bubbles” and “Biscuit” were made in Calgary by Veterinary Simulator Industries. The model horses were a donation by Dr. June Donaldson, an author and educator from Calgary. “Bubbles” was the horse she loved when visiting her grandparents farm west of Leduc, Alberta when she was a little girl. “Biscuit” was the nickname given to “Seabiscuit” which was a famous U.S. racehorse during the 1930’s.
Donaldson was present on Thursday morning for the foaling demonstration and spoke to reporters afterward.
